Dear Friend,

So much is going on at the Davis Lar!  Please friend Davis Lar Children's Home on Facebook to keep up with day to day happenings!  Here are some highlights.

HIGHLIGHTS
Successful Surgery
Robson

As we were waiting for Robson's surgery last Tuesday, he asked me why God had made him this way. If you have ever seen Robson's smile, or been on the receiving end of a Robinho hug,
Robson and his docs
Robson and his Docs
you know he was made by God and for God, and glorifies Him daily.  Whether he runs, or just walks really fast after recovery, he is following God's path.  Pray for his quick recovery, his physical therapy, and for his smile to grow ever bigger!

Why We Do What We Do!
Explained

Periodically something happens to remind us why we do what we do.  On Sunday evening, during a time of celebration, a mom came to visit pushing an old baby carriage full of smelly cloths and aluminum cans.  In tow was her young son.  As we spoke with her, we discerned why the girls had been placed with us.  But what of the son?  Why did the judge deem he should stay on the street begging with his mom?  What kind of future will he have?  The girls greeted their mother with trepidation.  I knelt down next to one daughter who had pulled away and asked if she was ok.  "Just embarrassed, Tia," she whispered as she looked at her feet.

The mom had made choices in her life.  Coupled with the extreme poverty of lower class Brazil, those choices have left her destitute, dirty and stuck in a cycle of abject penury.

Often the children suffer the same fate if left in the gutter, and for that the Davis Lar exists! While we connot help every child, our hope is to help those God places in our arms.  Those then grow with values based on love, mercy and the Word of God.  They then become self-sufficient, contributing adults affecting their family, city, state, country and world in the name of Jesus Christ.  Look at the faces below!  Remember where they came from!  This is why we do what we do, spreading the gospel exponentially.

BAPTISM

entire group

18 people, young and old, including 8 of our Davis Lar girls, were baptized Sunday evening.  Igreja Batista Aracas, Pastor Mark hand gesturesMarcos Monteiro, president of the Davis Lar, and Pastor Mark Wellman led our friends into the water, and that evening all enjoyed their first communion. (My Mark translated and showed them how to hold their nose!) Not only will these people affect our community of Aracas for Christ, as they grow they will affect surrounding areas, and Fortaleza.  Just read the excerpt above!  This is why we do what we do!!

Praise and Prayer Requests

Thank you for matching the funds!  While we are still making budget cuts, this extraordinary donation enabled us to breathe while making the tough decisions.  How can you continue to help the Davis Lar?

1) Pray for healing for our children, government cooperation, and wisdom as we make the hard decisions.
2)Pray for sponsorships and donations to grow. If you currently sponsor a child and have not contacted Linda, please do so.  We are struggling to get all the information in one place and need your help.   lhschrader@nctv.com.  If you do not sponsor a child, consider what a recent donor said. "We look for organizations that care for orphans and evangelize children.  The Davis Lar fits!"
3) Pray for the US 501c3, we meet next week, and continued church support through Southwest and Taylors.  Pray for other churches to come alongside the Davis Lar.
4) Pray for Taylors Medical/Construction team arriving Monday!
5) Pray for the Davis Lar board meeting this month.  As term limits expire, we are electing new members.

Thank you, Lord, for your continued provision and faithfulness.  While we often don't see how You will provide, we have faith You will complete the work You started.

MARK the REDNECK??
I, Mark, am Californian, born and bred!  As I walked into a meeting with a government official, a man approached me and asked in English,  "Are you a redneck?"  I wasn't sure I heard him correctly, but he repeated the question.  "Are you a redneck?"  Why me?  Could it have anything to do with spending my one year sabbatical in South Carolina?  I mean, c'mon y'all!!

On a serious note, I ask for prayer as I continue to construct an age appropriate discipleship program for our Lar children.  While God is obviously at work in their lives, as the above demonstrates, I want the Lar to become more purposeful in all of its activities.  May the Lar be a home where boys can learn to be gentlemen and girls can learn to be ladies, with service in the name of Jesus Christ as our focus.  I thank you for your continued prayer and encouragement as we seek to serve Christ by serving the Davis Lar Children's Home.
